NIGCOMSAT Appoints Nkechi Egerton-Idehen as New CEO

Nigcomsat new CEO Nkechi Egerton-Idehen

Nkechi Egerton-Idehen has been appointed as the new CEO of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Company (NIGCOMSAT). This appointment comes amidst the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu's significant reshuffle within the Country's Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, NIGCOMSAT's parent ministry. As a result, Nkechi Egerton-Idehen will assume her new role immediately, succeeding Engineer Tukur Mohammed Lawal Funtua, who took over as NIGCOMSAT’s CEO in December 2022.

Bright Ascension Ltd, a space software technology provider, has announced its successful acquisition of an additional £1.5m in funding through a bridging loan. This investment is an important milestone for the Company as it aims to ensure the seamless development of its innovative HELIX suite of software products as it nears its launch. Furthermore, the investment follows two successful fund-raising rounds, which the Company completed in August 2021 and January 2022which raised £1.5M of equity.

ESA Satellites observe Antarctic Ice shrinking

A European Space Agency (ESA) - funded study has reported the state of Antarctica's ice shelves, relying on information from the Copernicus Sentinel-1 and ESA’s CryoSat satellite missions. The study, which has been published in the journal Science Advances, is based on 100,000 satellite radar images to produce a major assessment of the ‘state of the health’ of Antarctica’s ice shelves.

ESA Awards InRange Contract to Three Companies

The European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded Skyrora, Viasat, and CGI a contract under the Commercial Space Transportation Services program to demonstrate InRange, a space-based launch vehicle telemetry relay system which will benefit launch vehicle providers across the industry globally. InRange will enable Skyrora to achieve continuous transmission of telemetry data during flight, from launch to payload deployment.

Eutelsat and Marlink Partner for EMEA Connectivity

Eutelsat Communications has announced a multi-year multi-million commitment with Marlink for GEO High Throughput Ku-band capacity on its EUTELSAT 10B satellite.
