Airbus Integrates Multiple ESMs for Orion Program

Three European Service Modules (ESMs) are currently undergoing integration in parallel in Airbus’ Bremen cleanrooms. Consequently, the integration of ESM-3 is almost complete, and ESM-4 is well underway. As a result, the newly arrived ESM-5 structure is undergoing initial integration. Each ESM requires the integration of more than 22,000 elements.

Airbus Launches European Defense Fund R&D Projects

Airbus has launched two defense research and development projects as part of the 2021 European Defense Fund (EDF). The EDF promotes cooperation among European companies and research institutes across the EU to strengthen Europe's resilience and strategic autonomy. In July 2022, the European Commission selected 61 R&T and R&D projects involving new technology areas and funded with €1.2 billion, including eight collaborative projects that Airbus is part of.

Airbus to Recruit Over 13,000 People in 2023

Airbus has disclosed plans to recruit more than 13,000 people globally in 2023 to support its commercial aircraft ramp-up and meet challenges in defense, space, and helicopters. Furthermore, around 7,000 of these recruitments will be new posts across the company. Accordingly, the new hires will be instrumental in supporting its industrial ramp-up and Airbus’ ambitious decarbonization roadmap and preparing the future of aviation.

Airbus to Provide SatCom Services for Belgian Armed Forces

Airbus has signed a contract with the Belgian Ministry of Defense to provide tactical satellite communications services for a 15-year period. The Armed Forces will utilize channels of the Airbus UHF (Ultra High Frequency) military communications hosted payload on board a commercial telecommunications satellite manufactured by Airbus.

Galileo Galilei Commemorative Plaque Unveiled by ESA

The European Space Agency (ESA) has unveiled a commemorative plaque celebrating Galileo’s discovery of Jupiter’s moons on ESA’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer as part of the final preparations.  The plaque is a tribute to Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei who was the first to view Jupiter and its four largest moons through a telescope in January 1610.

Airbus and VDL Group cooperate in developing airborne laser communication terminal

Airbus and Dutch high-tech industrial supplier, VDL Group, have signed a partnership agreement for the development and manufacturing of a laser communication terminal for aircraft, known as UltraAir, Airbus said. The duo is currently preparing a prototype demonstration demonstration and a first flight test planned for 2024.

France agrees to provide Poland with two satellites and a ground station

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu approved an agreement between Airbus and the Polish Armaments Agency. Under this agreement, France will deliver two reconnaissance satellites and a ground station to Poland, the ministers said at a press conference.
