The Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council has set itself three objectives in the space sector for the next six months, Agence Europe reported. The new presidency namely wants to advance the project for a European Space Traffic Management (STM) initiative, adopt conclusions to validate the “one space for all” approach

The European Commission has selected ArianeGroup to participate in three space surveillance and early warning projects under the European Defense Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP), ArianeGroup announced. The projects are part of the “Space Situational Awareness and Early Warning” category of the defense program.

Europe cannot afford to stay out of human spaceflight if it wants to rank as a global political and economic power, the head of the European Space Agency (ESA) said. “It’s not possible that a political and economic power like Europe cannot fly its own astronauts to space,” Josef Aschbacher, Director General of ESA, said at the Paris Air Forum at Le Bourget yesterday.

The European Commission will launch the EU’s new space program in a virtual conference on 22 June, the commission said. The conference is cohosted by the European Commission/DG DEFIS (Directorate General for Defence, Industry and Space), the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) and the European Space Agency (ESA).

The European commissioner for internal market, Thierry Breton, does not see Eutelsat involved in the European broadband satellite constellation due to its investment in OneWeb, the FT reports. “I do not see how, structurally, an entity can have stakes in two competing projects,” the FT quotes Breton.
