UEFA signs Memorandum with ESA

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on the 8th of May that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Space Agency (ESA). It is the first partnership dedicated to the exploration of space and a sports organisation. The partnership will enable UEFA to benefit from ESA’s network and expertise to address key challenges and generate new opportunities in football.

Sky and Space Company E-SSA Modem Project approved by ESA

Sky and Space Company, a British satellite company with communication nanosatellites and software expertise, in partnership with Wroclaw University of Science and Technology and Poland’s Ministry of Economic Development’s Space Policy Unit, announced on the 5th of April that they have been awarded a grant from the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop the Enhanced Spread Spectrum Aloha (E-SSA) Modem. The E-SSA aims to revolutionise space-to-ground communications and increase efficiencies for Inter-Satellite Linking. It is designed to be the first-ever modem with the capability to process frames on nanosatellites setting the stage for new applications in nanosatellite constellations and broadening the horizons of the space sector.

Europe Launches European Space-Oriented Index

The European Space Agency (ESA), the European Commission, and Promus Ventures have joined efforts for a Space Index which Euronext will launch, develop, and maintain. This is the first Euronext European space-related index to measure the stock market performance of European companies in the space sector. Through the partnership, the European Commission, ESA, and Promus Ventures intend to provide their expert advice in their respective areas of activity to Euronext in relation to the index.

Sweden to Inaugurate Space Center in January

On 13 January 2023, the Swedish head of state, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and European and Swedish political dignitaries will visit Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden to cut the ribbon of a new spaceport. The new spaceport, which saw years of preparation and construction, will significantly reshape the European space landscape. The event will take place in Kiruna in conjunction with Sweden taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

EUMETSAT Announces Successful Launch of MTG-I1
