The third edition of Space Café Austria focused on a topic, that has been more and more discussed ever since the Artemis Accords have come into play: The protection of space heritage and our shared space history. Host Judith Delany spoke with Dr. Christian Klösch of the Technical Museum in Vienna, giving a unique insight not just into Austrian Space history, but into the importance of history in general. Dr. Klösch, who studied history and astronomy, has been with the Vienna Museum of Technology (TMW) since 2009.

Launch integration and mission management services provider TriSept Corporation, has completed the integration of two experimental mission payloads running its new TSEL satellite security operating software for a suborbital test flight aboard RocketStar’s launch vehicle set to liftoff from the Koehn Lake Bed in the Mojave Desert, TriSept said.  

ADS (the UK trade association for aerospace, defence, security, and space organisations), published a new Space Sector Outlook yesterday providing an overview of the UK space sector and its growing contribution to the country’s economy. The outlook has been produced with the help of UKspace and support from the UK Space Agency.

Arianespace’s heavy-lift launcher, Ariane 5, flight VA258, has successfully deployed Eutelsat’s Konnect VHTS (Very High Throughput Satellite) telecommunications satellite in orbit. This was the launcher’s second mission of the year, the 114th overall, and the 37th time that Ariane launched a satellite for Eutelsat.

Firefly’s second attempt at reaching orbit, Alpha Flight 2 “To the black” will carry ATHENA, Europe’s first Electrospray thruster, a propulsion technology aboard two of the satellites stored inside the rocket. ATHENA (Adaptable THruster based on Electrospray for NAnosatellites) was developed by Spanish startup Ienai Space.

Space-resilient computing infrastructure company Ramon.Space, and vision-based sensor suite provider Lulav Space, will partner to provide an advanced navigation solution for the Beresheet 2 lunar missions scheduled for 2025. The Beresheet 2 lunar missions are developed by Israeli space development organisation, SpaceIL.

The State of the Satellite Industry Report about a decade ago had estimated global industry revenues for 2013 as $189 Billion. The same report today, in its June 2022 edition estimates the global industry to be worth about $386 Billion annually. For an industry that has been carefully regulated and closely tracked by Governments around the world, the last decade of nearly doubling annual revenues is a stellar achievement.
