OroraTech has signed a multi-million contract with the European Space Agency to deliver data to the European Union as part of the Copernicus Contributing Mission (CCM). Leveraging its recently launched in-orbit thermal sensor network, OroraTech will contribute vital data to critical sectors such as emergency services, climate change analysis, marine management, and land management.

Astroscale Holdings Inc. has announced the opening of Astroscale France SAS (“Astroscale France”) and a contract with the French national space agency, Centre National D'Etudes Spatiales (CNES). The contract, which both parties will sign on June 20 at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, formalizes a partnership between Astroscale France and CNES. Furthermore, it includes a funded study for active debris removal of French space debris. In addition, both parties will determine the specific debris in early 2024.

EnduroSat`s Balkan Constellation will join the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency (ESA)'s Copernicus Contributing missions after its selection. The selection happened in the presence of Thierry Breton, Commissioner for Internal Market of the European Union, and Dr. Joseph Aschbacher, ESA DG. 

In this Space Café Radio - SpaceWatch.Global publisher Torsten Kriening spoke with Dr Graham Turnock, Special Advisor at the European Space Agency ESA and ESA Accelerator Lead at GLOC - the Global Space Conference on Climate Change in Oslo in May 2023 ab the status of the accelerators and the way forward.

On the 25th of May 2023 GLOC, the first conference entirely focused on the role of the space sector for climate change mitigation, closed it’s first, extremely successful edition. Co-organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and the Norwegian Space Agency (NOSA), it was held in Oslo, Norway.

The Global Space Conference on Climate Change (GLOC 2023) arrived in Oslo last month; it was uncharacteristically interesting for a space conference. Not because it was overflowing with greatness, but because the bar for innovation and programmatic depth with space conferences has always tended to be quite low so the experience was unexpected.

The climate crisis keeps me up most nights. It occupies my thoughts persistently, and induces profound concern with climate-related matters, leading to intense emotional distress, sadness, and anger. I oscillate between feelings of hopelessness and experience a diminished interest and enjoyment in activities unrelated to climate and animal rights advocacy. I have to actively manage panic and anxiety attacks, depressive episodes, and there have been instances where I have felt physically ill due to the lack of action from global leaders.

On May 23-25 2023, we attended (online) GLOC2023: The Global Space Conference on Climate Change 2023, organized under the patronage of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and its member the Norwegian Space Agency (NOSA).

The DLR Senate appointed Professor Meike Jipp as the new Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport on the 15th of June. Professor Jipp teaches Transport Demand and Transport Impacts at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) and Director of the Berlin Institute of Transport Research at DLR.
