Warpspace finalises series A fundraising

Edinburgh, 6 October 2021. – Warpspace has closed Series A round with Japanese leading venture capitals, such as SBI Investment and Mizuho Capital, the company said.

The new round brings the total amount of funding to over USD 9 million since the company was founded in 2016. With Mizuho Capital on board, three large Japanese banks are now listed on the company’s list of investors.

The space start-up originating from the University of Tsukuba says they will accelerate the development of WARP-02. This data relay satellite comprises WarpHub InterSat, the world’s first inter-satellite optical communication service in the commercial sector.

WarpHub InterSat consists of three small optical relay satellites. Warpspace is aiming to launch this service in 2023. WarpHub Intersat enables LEO satellites to constantly communicate with ground stations via high-speed optical communication. The company claims this will allow satellite operators to access more data in near real-time.
