Berlin/ Brussels, 28 February 2022. – On 23 February 2022, Niklas Nienaß, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens/EFA rolled out an initiative for setting a coherent space legislation in Europe. Based on a study of five independent experts, coordinated by Kai-Uwe Schrogl with Irmgard Marboe, Jean-Francois Mayence, Lucien Rapp and Jenni Tapio (see their report Towards European Legislation for Space Activities), he calls upon the European Union to accept obligations under the international space treaties and to implement this in a Regulation. Furthermore, he proposes the adoption of a Directive, which would guide the Member States of the European Union in setting up national space legislation. This should lead to a level-playing field for the development of private space activities in Europe and could also serve as a joint approach to Space Traffic Management. Nienaß, who is a Member of the ITRE Committee of the European Parliament, will inject his initiative there and at the same time with the European Commission.

Dr. Wernher von Braun, former Marshall Space Flight Center Director, pointed out on July 22, 1969: "Because without public relations we would have been unable to do it". Today, accelerated access to space provides unprecedented opportunities for #advertising stunts and viral marketing. Some campaigns raise ethical, environmental, and regulatory concerns, while others champion sustainability.
