Arianespace is preparing its sixth launch of 2018 as it plans to orbit Azerbaijan's Azerspace-2/Intelsat-38 telecommunications satellite on board an Ariane-5 launch vehicle from the Guiana Space Center (CSG) in South America. The launch, planned for 25 September 2018, also includes the Horizons-3e communications satellite for Intelsat and its partner SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation.

Gazprom Space Systems, a Russian international satellite operator, and Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd., the Israeli satellite networking technology, solutions, and services company, signed a contract with an estimated value of U.S.$18 million, to provide broadband connectivity across Russia.

Qatar’s Es’hailSat satellite communications company has purchased outright the satellite it has been sharing with Eutelsat - EUTELSAT-25B/Es'hail-1 - taking full control of the satellite now just named Es'hail-1. The purchase comes as the Qatari company awaits the launch later this year of Es'hail-2, built by Japanese satellite manufacturer Mitsubishi Electric Company (MELCO).

Yahsat, the Abu Dhabi-based satellite communications operator, has completed its buyout of Dubai-based Thuraya, a leading mobile satellite services operator, and has also announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer for Thuraya, Ali Al Hashemi.

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia or Bank BRI, the state-owned and largest bank in Indonesia, has selected Hughes’ JUPITER system to enable connectivity across the Indonesian market.

After the failure of Angosat-1 shortly after its launch late last year, Angola is again partnering with Russia to build and launch Angosat-2 by 2020. Angola’s first communications satellite, Angosat-1, failed shortly after reaching orbit. It was launched in December 2017 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on board a Zenit 3F rocket. Russia’s RSC Energia, a subsidiary of the state-run space industry player Roscosmos, built the satellite.

The head of the Iran Space Agency (ISA), Morteza Barari, announced on 3 June 2018 that all current Iranian satellite projects are funded until the end of the Iranian fiscal year ending 21 March 2019.

Intelsat will provide satellite communications support to Myanmar to bolster the Southeast Asian country’s telecommunications infrastructure and increase its mobile telephone network capacity.
