Paris, 7 June 2021. – The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) cooperates with the Philippines Space Agency on the peaceful use of outer space, the agency announced.
UNOOSA said it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Philippines Space Agency (PhilSA) to deliver joint capacity-building activities to enhance the use of space science and technology for socio-economic development, particularly in line with supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The two parties will collaborate on the use of space-based information for disaster risk reduction and emergency response through UNOOSA’s UN-SPIDER program, it said.
SPIDER is the U.N.’s platform for space-based information for disaster management and emergency response.
UNOOSA and PhilSA will also work together on international space law, including by leveraging UNOOSA’s project Space Law for New Space Actors, the agency added.
