ASTRIONICS is Developing SpaceCOTS for NewSpace Industrialization

Ibadan, 28 June 2024. – ASTRIONICS is at the forefront of SpaceCOTS (Space Commercial Off-The-Shelf) technology for NewSpace Industrialization. During the annual German conference on EEE (Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical) parts organized by DLR, Dr. Michael Schlüter, founder and CEO of ASTRIONICS GmbH presented the current status and outlook of SpaceCOTS – a concept he pioneered and introduced already more than a decade ago.

ASTRIONICS essentially transforms automotive-level COTS into low-cost space electronics based on a proprietary property selection and testing process that complies with ESA’s ESCC-Q-ST-60-13C standard. The explosive growth of the NewSpace industry has driven the trend to use COTS parts to reduce costs and accelerate access to cutting-edge technologies in space projects. SpaceCOTS is the result of this movement and aims to meet the needs of the space industry. ASTRIONICS acts as a specialized COTS-EEE distributor, providing suitable COTS components of different quality levels, mainly for LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and NewSpace applications.

ASTRIONICS’ unique portfolio includes dedicated services and sourcing solutions for the NewSpace industry, including a worldwide database of space-tested COTS, a comprehensive database of space-tested COTS components, flexible COTS electronics and systems with excellent traceability and adaptable quantities, a space environmental test network to facilitate component testing, modular and in-situ electronics test support through exclusive partnerships (e.g. with UNITES Systems). In addition, ASTRIONICS is leveraging synergies with ongoing NewSpace projects, some of which are moving into production.

ASTRIONICS GmbH, formerly known as Spectrum Aerospace (Spectrum ARC), was founded in November 2012 in Gilching (Germany). Its mission is the systematic application of COTS electronics and components for the space industry, with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and rigorous testing processes.
