In early June 2024, the Center for Space Policy and Strategy (CSPS) released an analysis titled: “Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Defense Space Budget: Continued Emphasis on Proliferation Under a More Constrained Top-Line.” With a large number of orbital space military assets, if some assets get incapacitated, there is still enough left to operate and defend. Commercial providers can launch emergency replacement assets even faster. Question: is such a “resilience” policy sufficient to guarantee orbital space defense, strong and sustainable enough to deter adversaries? Let’s find out.
