Ibadan, 21 July 2023. – The United Kingdom (UK) has published its National Space Strategy in Action, setting out how the government will deliver on the ambitions set out in the National Space Strategy and summarizes the government’s achievements so far. Primarily, the policy paper sets out the next steps in implementing the National Space Strategy across each of its four pillars; unlocking growth, collaborating internationally, growing as a science superpower, and developing resilient capabilities.

The strategy sets out policy steps the UK is currently taking and sets the direction for the work of government over the next 18 months. This consequently gives space sector businesses and innovators clarity and confidence of where government is intervening, and where it will intervene in the future. Likewise, it sets out the key metrics it will use to track its progress.

Since the publication of the National Space Strategy in September 2021, the UK has taken several steps to deliver that vision. For example, the government has announced more than £10 billion of funding for space activities stretching across a decade, including more than £1.75 billion to the UK Space Agency (UKSA) in this Spending Review period. In addition, the UK has also seen seen significant successes including both the licensing and first launch from the UK’s first spaceport, through to securing three new astronauts through the European Space Agency (ESA).

The National Space Strategy brought together the UK’s strengths in science and technology, defense, regulation and diplomacy to pursue a bold national vision; to build one of the most innovative and attractive space economies in the world, and the UK will grow as a space nation, among others.
