Edinburgh / Wuhan, 5 January 2022. – China’s first smart manufacturing facility for small satellites utilises smart machinery and full automation in key production processes, thus increasing production efficiency by over 40 percent. The intelligent production line is capable of producing 240 small satellites a year, the China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported.

The smart machinery allows for customizing each satellite, weighing under a ton. The warehouse can store tens of thousands of parts for 60 satellites in the more than 1800 storage booths. The first satellite was produced in May last year, marking the start of mass production.

The factory is owned by CASIC Space Engineering Development Corporation, a subsidiary of state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). The facility is located at the Wuhan National Aerospace Industry Base in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province.
