Southern Launch on its way to launch from Whalers Way in Australia

Edinburgh, 6 August 2021. – Southern Launch has been granted licences to launch from the Eyre peninsula by the Australian Space Agency, the company said.

Southern Launch reached a milestone with the release of its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex on the Eyre Peninsula.

The 3,200 page document is open for public consultation until Thursday, 16th September 2021. The public is invited to two information sessions where they can ask questions or voice their opinion regarding the project.

Once approved, the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex will become the first in Australia suitable for launching commercial satellites into orbit. This will mark South Australia’s entry to the space market as well as creating new local jobs.

Southern Launch already has the approval for three small rocket test launches by the end of this year. During these launches, the company will be able to collect vital noise and vibration data that accompany launches in general. Southern Launch is committed to ensuring their operations make a positive economic and social impact while also safeguarding the flora and fauna at Whalers Way, the company said.
