Paris, 20 November 2020. – Divorce completed: Viasat buys Eutelsat’s 51% share in their former European broadband partnership and its KA-SAT satellite platform, the Californian company announced.
Viasat acquires Eutelsat’s 51% share of Euro Broadband Infrastructure (EBI), the wholesale broadband services business that both companies jointly created in Europe.
It will also acquire the KA-SAT platform on Eutelsat’s 9B satellite at 9 degrees East and the related ground infrastructure and add all to its established retail broadband services business, Viasat said.
EBI provides fixed and mobile broadband services on a wholesale basis in the European and Mediterranean markets.
Viasat acquires Eutelsat’s EBI share and its KA-SAT platform for €140 million, the company said; the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter 2021.
