In diese Ausgabe des Space Café WebTalks, Andreas Schepers, Freund von SpaceWatch.Global und Host des Space Café Germany, spricht Sabine von der Recke, Sprecherin der German Offshore Spaceport Allinance, über die Pläne für eine mobile Launch-Site in der Nordsee. Sabine von der Recke ist als Leiterin des Berliner Büros des Raumfahrtkonzerns OHB seit vielen Jahren in der deutschen und europäischen Raumfahrt aktiv.
Die German Offshore Spaceport Alliance wurde im Dezember 2020 gegründet und verfolgt das Ziel, von einer schwimmenden, mobilen Plattform aus der Nordsee Trägerraketen mit Nutzlasten bis zu einer Tonne ins All zu befördern.
Frau von der Recke beschreibt das technische Konzept, Trägerraketen von einem Schiff aus zu starten und verweist auf zahlreiche Vorteile von Starts auf hoher See. Insbesondere die kurzen Transportwege bis zur mobilen Startplattform seien für europäische Hersteller von Microlaunchern interessant.
Der Startplatz in der Nordsee sei keine Konkurrenz zum Europäischen Startplatz in Französisch Guyana, weil ein anderes Marktsegement bedient werden soll. Die GOSA rechnet mit einer großen Nachfrage, da der Markt für Klein- und Micro-Satelliten in Zukunft stark wachsen werde.
Im weiteren Gespräch spricht Sabine von der Recke auch über politische Unterstützung und welche regulativen Hürden es noch zu überwinden gilt.
In this edition of Space Café WebTalks, Sabine von der Recke, spokesperson for German Offshore Spaceport Alliance, talks about the plans for a mobile launch site in the North Sea. As head of the Berlin office of the space company OHB, Sabine von der Recke has been active in German and European spaceflight for many years.
The German Offshore Spaceport Alliance was founded in December 2020 with the aim of launching launch vehicles with payloads of up to one tonne into space from a floating, mobile platform in the North Sea.
Ms von der Recke describes the technical concept of launching launch vehicles from a ship and points out numerous advantages of launches on the high seas. In particular, the short transport distances to the mobile launch platform are interesting for European manufacturers of micro launchers.
The launch site in the North Sea is not in competition with the European launch site in French Guyana, because a different market segment is to be served. GOSA expects a great demand, as the market for small and microsatellites will grow strongly in the future.
In the conversation, Sabine von der Recke also talks about political support and the regulatory hurdles that still need to be overcome.
