SpaceX to launch Yahsat’s Thuraya 4-NGS satellite

Yahsat has chosen SpaceX to launch its Airbus Defence and Space-built Thuraya 4-NGS next-generation mobile connectivity satellite, the companies announced. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed by either side. Yahsat selected Airbus to develop Thuraya 4-NGS last year. The preliminary design review in June found that the development of the satellite was on schedule.

D-Orbit signs €2,2 million space debris removal contract with ESA

The UK branch of D-Orbit signed a €2,197M contract with ESA for phase 1 of the development and in-orbit validation of a “Deorbit Kit”, D-Orbit said. The agreement is part of ESA’s Space Safety Programme. The decommissioning kit is a self-contained suite of equipment that can be used with space vehicles of any size.

University of Zurich and Airbus to advance production of human tissue in space

The next ISS supply flight will bring tissue stem cells from two women and two men of different ages to the International Space Station to further advance the industrial production of human tissue in zero-gravity, Airbus said. The experiment will be carried out on the Space Hub of the University of Zurich (UZH) and Airbus Defence and Space. Initial tests on the ISS 18 months ago were successful.

Ariane 5 back to flight with launch of Eutelsat´s Quantum

Eutelsat Quantum, the first sophisticated telecommunication satellite was launched on board of an Ariane 5 on 30th July at 23:00 CEST from French Guiana Space Centre. The launch marks Arianespace’s 6th successful mission of the year. The commercial, fully flexible satellite can be repurposed completely during its time in space thanks to its configurable software-defined design.
