
Ibadan, 4 August 2024. – The International Space University (ISU) has announced the appointment of Dr. John Wensveen as its new President. Dr. Wensveen, a seasoned expert in higher education, the aerospace industry, and entrepreneurship will succeed acting President Nicolas Peter, who is returning to the European Space Agency after guiding the institution through a significant transition period.
Dr. Wensveen joins ISU from his most recent position as Chief Innovation Officer at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and Executive Director of the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation, where he spearheaded a successful public-private partnership in South Florida. His extensive background and leadership in various sectors will consequently guide ISU as it develops and implements a long-term strategic plan to solidify the university’s role in advancing space exploration and innovation.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Wensveen said, “ISU has a proud legacy of fostering international collaboration and innovation in space education, and I commit to ensuring that our university remains a leader in this dynamic field.” The new President also added, “As we enter this next phase, our strategy will focus on understanding and leveraging the trends, challenges, and opportunities within the growing space economy, for the betterment of Earth and both inner and outer space applications.”
Dr. Christian Sallaberger, Chairman of ISU’s Board of Trustees, also stated, “Dr. John Wensveen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the International Space University at a pivotal time for the global space industry. His proven track record in innovation and strategic development will be instrumental in keeping ISU at the forefront of the space world. We are confident that under Dr. Wensveen’s leadership, ISU will continue to thrive and expand its influence in academic, industrial, and governmental facets of global space activities.”
