ESA-Astronaut Matthias Maurer wird am Sonntag, 31.10.2021 erstmals zur Internationalen Raumstation ISS starten. Wir hatten Gelegenheit, mit Ihm in Houston über die letzten Vorbereitungen zu seiner Mission, die Unterschiede zwischen russischen und amerikanischen Raumanzügen, Extravehicular Activitities und seine Experimente zu sprechen. Das aufgezeichnete Gespräch wurde von Reinhold Ewald, Maurers „Astronauten-Mentor“ kenntnisreich und mit vielen Details ergänzt.
Maurer ist derzeit der einzige Astronaut weltweit, der sowohl für das US-amerikanische EVA-System als auch für russische Raumanzüge qualifiziert ist. Im Video erklärt er detailliert, worin die Unterschiede beider Systeme liegen.
Matthias Maurer wird als Mitglied der Crew 3 an Bord eines brandneuen Dragon-Crew-Raumfahrzeugs zur ISS starten. Maurer beschreibt die Dragon aus der Perspektive eines Mission-Specialists und verrät, warum er keinen Fensterplatz hat.
Abschließend spricht Maurer über einige der über 100 Experimente, die er im Laufe seiner Cosmic-Kiss Mission durchführen wird. Als Maurer im All freut er sich besonders auf ein Experiment mit Beton.

ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer will launch to the International Space Station ISS for the first time on Sunday, 31.10.2021. We had the opportunity to talk to him from Houston about the final preparations for his mission, the differences between Russian and American spacesuits, Extravehicular Activities and his experiments. The recorded conversation was knowledgeably and with many details completed by Reinhold Ewald, Maurer’s “astronaut mentor”.
Maurer is currently the only astronaut in the world qualified to wear both the U.S. EVA system and Russian spacesuits. In the video, he explains in detail what the differences are between the two systems.
Matthias Maurer will launch to the ISS as a member of Crew 3 aboard a brand-new Dragon crew spacecraft. Maurer describes the Dragon from the perspective of a mission specialist and reveals why he doesn’t have a window seat.
Finally, Maurer talks about some of the more than 100 experiments he will perform during his Cosmic Kiss mission. As a Maurer in space, he is especially looking forward to an experiment with concrete.
