Ibadan, 28 February 2025. – The Office for Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn), Singapore’s national space office, has launched “Singapore’s Space Sector: Next Bound of Development”, a strategy to grow Singapore’s nascent space industry and research ecosystem, at the Global Space Technology Convention & Exhibition (GSTCE) 2025.
Pursuant to the new strategy, the South East Asian country will invest an additional S$60 million (USD 44.5 million) in OSTIn’s Space Technology Development Program (STDP) over the next two years to accelerate innovation in satellite technology, foster capability-building in Singapore’s IHLs and RIs and promote the commercialization of research. This aims to develop Singapore’s growing space sector, which is the first “thrust” of the country’s new national space strategy.
Likewise, Singapore will continue to pursue bilateral collaboration and participation in multilateral platforms, including convening regional and global discussions on space towards its Strategy’s second “thrust” to build international partnerships.
Consequently, OSTIn has signed a Letter of Intent with the European Space Agency to enhance industry cooperation. OSTIn is also working on formalizing an engagement to expand cooperation in space technology and industry development with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).
Lastly, Singapore will focus on space technology programs that can make a real-world difference. Space technology presents opportunities for the Republic to strengthen its position as a global hub for aviation, maritime, connectivity, and sustainability. As a result, the third “thrust” will look to develop space programs in these and other focus areas.
Remarking on Singapore’s space goals with the strategy, Ms Jacqueline Poh, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board, noted, “Singapore’s space sector is entering a new phase of growth. By leveraging our strengths in business and R&D, we aim to develop space technologies that can unlock new economic opportunities, reinforcing Singapore’s role in the global space economy.”
