Promoting diversity and inclusion in the ‘war for talent’
Despite a growing emphasis on STEAM [science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics] education and hyped claims of a ‘war for talent’ in the space industry, navigating a space career remains challenging.
This episode of Space Café Canada will feature Hira Nedeem, the first Canadian recipient of the Brooke Owens Fellowship, which offers capable young women and other gender minorities a career boost in the aerospace sector. Building on this opportunity, Hira co-founded the Zenith Canada Pathways Foundation and, with her team, developed the Zenith Fellowship, which provides internship and mentorship opportunities in the space sector to students and young professionals from underrepresented groups across Canada. Hira is currently working in the United States as a Space Systems Engineer on the SkySat Mission Operations Team at Planet.
Join us for a frank discussion on the opportunities and obstacles young women and other underrepresented groups face trying to enter the space industry. Gain insights into what potential new hires are seeking. Draw inspiration from a Foundation that is taking careers “to new frontiers.”
The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions in dialogue with Hira Nadeem.
