Dr Alice Bunn becomes new UKspace President

Budapest, 18 July 2022. – CEO of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Dr Alice Bunn OBE, has been named as the new President of UKspace, the trade association of the British space industry, the institution said. She takes over the role from Will Whitehorn from September.

Dr Bunn joined IMechE a year ago; prior to that, she served as the UK Space Agency’s International Director. Her role involved increasing the UK’s global influence in science, trade and security through space. She is currently a member of the US Space Foundation and the World Economic Forum Future Council’s Board of Directors. Dr Bunn is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society. 

She is a board of trustees member at the SwimTayka charity as well, providing free swimming lessons and environmental education to underprivileged children. Dr Bunn was awarded an OBE in June for her services to the UK space sector and to charity. As President of UKspace, she is going to promote the role of space in the UK’s civil and defence capabilities. 

Whitehorn has been President of UKspace since September 2019. He is to formally hand over the role to Dr Bunn in September at Spaceport Cornwall, during the first domestic satellite launch in UK history.
