Ibadan, 21 October 2026. – Italian Earth observation and geospatial intelligence company Latitudo 40 has raised €2.9 million to accelerate its technological development and international expansion. Announced on 30 September, the funding round was led by Vertis SGR through its Vertis Venture 6 Digital Sud fund for southern Italian startups, with participation and support from Kurrant Ventures, returning investor CRIF and Intesa Sanpaolo. The investment will fund further development of the company’s technology platform, research and development, and commercial expansion into international markets.
Founded in Naples in 2017, Latitudo 40 develops AI-powered Earth observation solutions through two platforms: EarthDataInsights, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for monitoring environmental change and assessing climate risks, and EarthDataPlace, a marketplace for ready-to-use geospatial analyses and information that can be integrated into existing systems. The platforms support applications spanning climate-risk assessment, environmental monitoring, and urban and infrastructure planning.
The funding will support Latitudo 40’s ambition to evolve geospatial intelligence from a tool for observing the planet into predictive decision-support technology. The company’s strategy rests on two technological pillars: Agentic Earth Observation (EO) and Physical AI, supported by a proprietary AI foundation model that the company plans to integrate across its solutions.
Agentic EO and Physical AI
Under the Agentic EO pillar, Latitudo 40 aims to develop AI agents capable of autonomously querying, combining, and interpreting satellite, geospatial, and environmental data. By automating parts of this process, the company intends to reduce the complexity of accessing relevant information and accelerate the conversion of raw data into operational insights. The planned AI foundation model will underpin this development and be integrated across its solutions.
Likewise, the second pillar, Physical AI, aims to connect geospatial intelligence with the systems that manage cities, infrastructure, and other real-world assets. Combined with Agentic EO, this approach is intended to help organizations move beyond monitoring environmental conditions toward anticipating risks and informing decisions on urban development, climate adaptation, and infrastructure management. The broader goal is to embed predictive geospatial intelligence more directly into the processes used to manage physical environments.
“This funding round marks an important milestone in Latitudo 40’s journey: from a platform that observes and interprets the planet to a technology increasingly embedded in the processes that shape it,” explained Gaetano Volpe, CEO and Founder of Latitudo 40.
“With Agentic EO, we are building agents capable of autonomously combining and interpreting satellite and geospatial data; with Physical AI, we aim to connect this intelligence to the real world, helping cities, infrastructure and organisations move from observation to action. The participation of Vertis, Kurrant Ventures and CRIF gives us the capital, expertise and network to accelerate product development, internationalisation and team growth.”
Supporting scaled-up predictive geospatial intelligence
The investment consequently brings together complementary expertise to support Latitudo 40’s next phase of growth. Vertis SGR provides venture-capital experience, Kurrant Ventures brings a focus on smart-city and utility technologies and an international industry network. CRIF contributes expertise in business information, analytics, and digital services. Together, the investors’ capital and industry connections will support the company across its product development and expansion into international markets.
“Latitudo 40 represents the kind of company we want to support; a company founded in Southern Italy, with proprietary technology, distinctive expertise and an international market. Latitudo 40 has built a platform capable of turning satellite data into concrete decision-making tools for cities, infrastructure and businesses. With this investment, we aim to support the company through its next phase of growth and strengthen its international positioning,” added Renato Vannucci, Vice President and Partner at Vertis SGR.
