From the SmallSat Conference in Salt Lake City, Daniela Jovic sits down with Eric Anden, Head of Communication Products at Ramon.Space, for an engaging conversation about the company’s mission to bring terrestrial computing to space.
Anden explains that Ramon.Space builds space computers and is working to create the next generation of space computing infrastructure – taking the way we compute on Earth and bringing it into orbit. He traces a rich history: founded in Israel around 20 years ago as a chip company, Ramon.Space built ASICs that have flown all across the solar system before making the pivotal shift in 2020 from a chip company to a systems company, placing those chips onto space computers and combining them with others to build tailored solutions. Today its product line spans storage, compute, and communications. Founded by Technion professor Ran Ginosar, the company has grown from a team of 10–20 to more than 100 people globally, with two sites in Israel, a presence in the UK, and – since last year – a growing engineering site in Denver, spurred by rising interest in GEO products and the US market.
A highlight of the conversation is the resurgence of the geostationary market. As Anden observes, GEO moves in cycles: after a period when LEO constellations captured much of the momentum, customers are once again drawn to what geostationary uniquely offers – a fixed position in orbit, lifetimes of up to 15 years, and a growing wave of replenishment as ageing satellites near end of life. Many customers, he notes, now want both.
Anden closes with a candid reflection from his background as a systems engineer: the industry’s tendency to become overwhelmed by technical documentation. While that documentation is essential, he sees a brighter, simpler future ahead – one where AI tools digest documents more efficiently, and product configurators and APIs connect customers to products as seamlessly as they are connected commercially on Earth.
