Lagos, 24 November 2025, – Simera Sense and Zaitra have announced a strategic collaboration to combine their respective technologies to address pressing bottlenecks in Earth Observation. In a world that demands instant decisions, satellites can’t afford to be just cameras in orbit as they need to be smart, fast, and efficient.
In addressing this, Simera Sense and Zaitra are combining their technologies for smart compression, fast detection, and rapid decision-making; a breakthrough onboard processing solution designed to transform Earth Observation missions.
Advanced sensors like Simera Sense’s MultiScape100 and HyperScape100 generate gigabits of data per scene, overwhelming downlink capacity and delaying critical decisions. To address this, both companies are adopting a four-step data acquisition approach; Capture, Detect, Compress Smart, and Transmit Fast.
The Combined Solution:
- Capture: Simera Sense’s instruments acquire rich multispectral and hyperspectral imagery for applications such as disaster response, agriculture, and urban planning;
- Detect: Zaitra’s SKAISEN AI engine identifies high-value targets; urban areas, infrastructure, and disaster zones, while filtering out irrelevant data, such as clouds;
- Compress Smart: SKAIPACK applies advanced JPEG2000 compression with Region of Interest (ROI) prioritization. Critical regions are preserved in lossless quality, while low-value areas are aggressively compressed;.
- Transmit Fast: SKAIDOCK ensures high-speed onboard processing and progressive transmission, so the most important pixels reach analysts within minutes of acquisition.
Thys Cronje, Chief Commercial Officer at Simera Sense, explains, “Our imagers produce some of the most detailed data in the industry and we understand that delayed data means late decisions. With Zaitra’s Edge Suite onboard, we can overcome the bottlenecks that have long limited Earth Observation’s potential.”
The EO sector is booming; relative to the last decade, resulting from the explosion of high-resolution data and the urgent need for real-time insights. The collaboration between Simera Sense and Zaitra thereby positions both companies at the forefront of this transformation.
