Agnikul Cosmos Launches 3D-Printed Semi-Cryogenic Rocket

Ibadan, 30 May 2024. – Agnikul Cosmos has successfully performed a sub-orbital test flight of its 3D-printed semi-cryogenic rocket — Agnibaan — from its launch pad at Sriharikota. Agnikul Cosmos was able to meet all the mission objectives of the controlled vertical ascent flight with nominal performance. The Company designed the vehicle in-house and used a single piece 3d printed engine to power the flight.

Commenting on the achievement of the start-up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “A remarkable feat which will make the entire nation proud! The successful launch of Agnibaan rocket powered by the world’s first single-piece 3D printed semi-cryogenic engine is a momentous occasion for India’s space sector and a testament to the remarkable ingenuity of our Yuva Shakti. My best wishes to the Agnikul Cosmos team for their future endeavours.”

Likewise, Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), added, “Elated at the successful launch of Agnibaan SOrTeD by Agnikul Cosmos. A historic moment for India’s space sector. Powered by the world’s first single piece 3D printed semi-cryogenic engine, this achievement showcases the brilliance of our young innovators.”

Lt Gen A K Bhatt (retd) Director General, Indian Space Association (ISpA) also commented, “This is a huge boost and a proud moment for India’s thriving private space industry and just a glimpse into what the future holds for us, our hearty congratulations to the entire team behind this and best wishes for their future efforts.”

The Agnibaan rocket is a customizable, two-stage launch vehicle that can carry up to 300 kg of payload to orbits nearly 700 km in altitude. AgniKul became the first Indian firm to sign an agreement with ISRO in December 2020 under the IN-SPACe initiative, granting the Company unprecedented access to ISRO’s expertise and cutting-edge facilities.
