UAE’s Thuraya Showcases EnergyComms At IPTC 2020 In Saudi Arabia

Thuraya, the mobile satellite services subsidiary of the UAE-based Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), announced on 13 January 2020 that it is participating in the 12th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) in Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Visitors to IPTC 2020 will be able to view and test Thuraya’s voice, broadband and IoT/M2M solutions for land, maritime and aero platforms at Booth 84, from 13 to 15 January 2020. With an established record of delivering bespoke, reliable and cost-effective connectivity for both onshore and offshore installations across the Arabian Gulf, Thuraya has emerged as the region’s top alternative to terrestrial communications in a relatively short span of time.

“The Middle East is the world’s biggest oil production hub, and the second largest gas producer. A majority of exploration sites in the region are located in areas with poor telecommunications infrastructure, where implementing terrestrial communications can be both expensive and impractical,” says Shawkat Ahmed, Thuraya’s Chief Commercial Officer. “As the region’s only Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) operator, Thuraya is better attuned to local market demands, enabling comms-on-the-move in the most challenging conditions.”

He continues, “We have been able to establish many successful customer relationships in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the support of our partner Farhan Commercial Company Ltd. This year at IPTC, we expect to build on these ties as well as tap into new opportunities for business expansion. We are introducing a number of solutions that help industry users tackle remote operational and security challenges through automation and optimization.”

Thuraya’s flexible communication systems ensure interoperability among multiple users in different geographies. They integrate well with rough terrain vehicles and seafaring vessels. By providing always-on connectivity for key energy applications such as tracking remote assets, pipeline monitoring, oil and gas SCADA and smart metering, Thuraya’s technology hastens the digitalization of oilfields for major operational and cost savings. It is an important enabler of interconnected technologies or IoT, bringing reliable, always available LPWAN data connectivity to connected devices across countries and continents.

At IPTC 2020, Thuraya will demonstrate the flexibility of its EnergyComms portfolio, by highlighting its effectiveness for operations near pipelines, rigs and in other regions beyond the range of land-based networks. On display will be a selection of popular IoT/M2M, land, maritime and aeronautical terminals including Thuraya T2M-DUAL, Thuraya IP+, Thuraya MarineStar, Thuraya Aero and a range of handsets such as the award-winning Thuraya X5-Touch android satellite touch phone.
