Planet is set to provide its imagery and analysis to Thailand under an agreement with the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), an agency under Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology. The company will provide the organisation with Planet Basemaps over the country on a quarterly basis which will provide the government with up-to-date and cloud-free imagery that can be used by various ministries such as agriculture, rural development and water.

“With persistent monitoring and analysis from Planet, Thailand will gain unprecedented insights, which will guide national priorities like sustainability and resource management, urban planning, food security, and environmental stewardship, not only at a political level, but also grassroots level,” said Kandasri Limpakom, Director of Business and Alliance Development Office. “This data will be instrumental as Thailand develops its remote sensing capabilities in the future. Working together, we will integrate the latest technology with local knowledge to enhance performance of national priorities.”

“The partnership will bring significant social and economic benefits to the Thai community. Planet will add value to its daily imagery with computer vision and machine learning in collaboration with GISTDA,” said Shankar Sivaprakasam, Vice President, APAC and Japan, at Planet. “Partnerships with national space agencies have the power to usher the respective countries into the intelligent economy via space and big data.”

Thailand views space as an important resource and is investing in its own space program, particularly Earth observation satellites. However, until this capability becomes available, the country will be able to use Planet’s data to gain accurate and timely information.
