SES S.A. announced on 19 December 2016 that it will support Luxembourg’s presence at Expo 2020 in Dubai. The world exhibition with the overall theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” will take place between October 2020 and April 2021 in the United Arab Emirates. Its main theme will be developed through three spheres: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Focusing on Luxembourg’s strengths in economic and technological innovation and diversification, Luxembourg’s pavilion will explore the key topic “Resourceful Luxembourg”.
SES supports the Grand Duchy and the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy alongside two other partners, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and POST Luxembourg. The concept of the pavilion and the cooperation were presented today at a joint press-conference in the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy.
Karim Michel Sabbagh, President and CEO of SES, commented: “SES is an excellent example of Luxembourg’s global reach. Covering 99% of the planet and connecting over a billion people every day, SES perfectly demonstrates how a small country can have an impact well beyond its frontiers and even reach the most remote corners of the world. SES also illustrates Luxembourg’s pioneering role in space technologies and its ambition to explore new resources. As a global leader and a strong partner of the Government, we enthusiastically participate in this new adventure and look forward to supporting Luxembourg’s presence in Dubai.”
Étienne Schneider, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, commented: “The United Arab Emirates are the most important commercial partner of Luxembourg in the Golf region. In promoting innovation and sustainable development, the profile of Expo 2020 perfectly aligns with our national approach of global economic diversification, especially with reference to the space sector and information and communication technologies. Dubai is the first Arab city in the world to host a universal expo that expects over 25 million visitors. Our participation offers a unique opportunity to highlight Luxembourg’s strengths on the international scene, and particularly in the Middle East.”
