The International Space University (ISU) is organizing the French Edition of the 4th CASSINI Hackathon. The hackathon will hold from 4-6 November 2022 and is co-organised by the European Commission and EUSPA. It will feature topics related to "Space and the Financial World."

Satellite communications company Viasat has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Link 16 Tactical Data Links (TDL) business to L3Harris Technologies for US $1.96 billion, Viasat said. The sale of Viasat’s Link 16 Tactical Data Link business includes the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) platforms.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 successfully launched Eutelsat’s Hotbird-13F geostationary communications satellite, NASA said. This was the 47th Falcon 9 flight this year and the third flight for booster B1069.

Rocket Lab,  a leading launch and space systems company, has announced its selection by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to supply solar panels. The solar panels will power NASA’s shoe-box-sized mobile robots within the Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Explorers (CADRE) program.

Launch and in-space services provider Firefly Aerospace’s Alpha FLTA002 mission successfully reached orbit and deployed customer payloads, the company said. Firefly became first US commercial space company with a rocket in the 1300-kg payload lift class.

In this week’s Space Café Brazil, Ian Grosner talked with Lucas Fonseca, a Brazilian Space System Engineering. Lucas Fonseca has a BSc. in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and an MSc. in Space System Engineering from the Higher Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace) in Toulouse, France.

The very existence of human life on earth today is dependent on space-based services. From banking and money transfers to streaming online content and using maps, the internet and other technological capabilities are being widely used by everyone across the world. From the individual level to the international level, space-based services play a crucial role. However, there are still many challenges and threats within the space domain, that need to be addressed at the national, regional, and global levels. All these imply the fact that space is both a competent and vulnerable domain in the contemporary world.
