Commission kickstarts €1.2bn European Defence Fund

The European Commission kick-started the €1.2 billion European Defence Fund and awarded €158 million to 26 projects and another €137 million to the Eurodrone and the ESSOR software project. EU to invest €9 billion in space between 2021 and 2027

The European Union (EU) will invest nearly €9 billion in European space programs over the period of 2021 to 2027, the European Space Agency (ESA) said. EU and ESA signed a new Financial Framework Partnership Agreement (FFPA), “for ESA and European industry to design new-generation systems and programmes, crucial for the economy and a green and digital Europe”, ESA said.

NATO spending to rise due to space, analysts say

NATO’s defense spendings are likely to increase driven by expansion into space, the data and analytics group GlobalData. The comment follows the news that NATO leaders have declared that “attacks in, to and from space against any member will now trigger the mutual defense agreement and obligate allied members to respond”, GlobalData said.
