Europe spent $2 billion on government satcom, Euroconsult says

Governments around the world spent $6.6 billion on government telecommunications programs in 2021, Euroconsult said. European countries spent over $2 billion on satcom, with France, the UK and Germany as leaders. Over the decade, governments worldwide are forecasted to invest over $70 billion in both civil and defence satellite communications systems.

Maxar adds $100m in defense and intelligence contracts

Maxar Technologies extended its contracts with three long-standing international defense and intelligence customers. The agreements total more than $100 million and extend these customers’ ability to download satellite imagery from Maxar’s current constellation and under its Direct Access Program, the provider of geospatial intelligence said.

Airbus leads European quantum internet consortium

The European Commission has selected a consortium of companies and research institutes to study the design of the future European quantum communication network, EuroQCI. EuroQCI is to enable ultra-secure communication between critical infrastructures and government institutions across the European Union. The consortium is led by Airbus and includes Leonardo, Orange, and PwC.

Sateliot leads Spanish IoT nanosat consortium

The Spanish satellite telecommunications operator Sateliot takes the lead to develop a low Earth orbit (LEO) nanosatellite constellation offering 5G coverage and a secure quantum key information exchange system. Sateliot is leading a consortium of a dozen companies and the Spanish Ministry of Defense, as a potential user, to deploy the nanosat constellation, the company said.
