Space Café WebTalk Recap: Ole Dokka on opportunities that come with a spaceport in the North

In this week’s Space Cafè WebTalk, Ole Dokka, project manager of Newspace North, Andoya, Norway, talked about a wide range opportunities that arise with the new spaceport developments.

Norway and Andøya Space will soon have one of few commercial spaceports for small satellites in Europe. The project received the first major governmental investment this summer and will have between 24 and 30 launches a year when operating at full capacity in 2023-2024. This is a major shift for Norwegian and European space industry.

“Newspace North” is the name of a project that will develop a new national & international innovation centre, in close proximity to the spaceport at Andøya in Norway.

He also answered relevant questions from the audience.

This Space Cafè WebTalk, held on 10 November 2020, was hosted by Torsten Kriening, publisher of SpaceWatch.Global.

Orbex Secures Patent for ‘Petal Fold’ Reusable Rocket Technology

Orbex has successfully patented its REFLIGHT reusable rocket technology following patent approval in several European markets, based on the patent grant by the European Patent Office, as well as in the United States. The technology works well with micro-launcher rockets like Orbex’s Prime rocket since it enables recovery of the launch vehicle by repurposing existing structural features while adding very little additional weight to the vehicle. It thereby enables reusability with very limited overall performance penalty and no additional rocket propulsion emissions in the upper atmosphere during re-entry.
